SAA 2023 Women’s Basketball Report – Nov. 20

Atlanta, Ga. – The SAA has recognized its women’s basketball athlete of the week and notable performances for the second week of the season.

Athletes of the Week:
Kayla Antoine | Sewanee | Senior | Nashville, Tenn. – posted a trio of double-doubles for Sewanee in a 1-2 week with their losses coming to undefeated teams. Against Berea, she tallied 21 points with 10 rebounds and two blocks while shooting 41 percent from the floor. On Friday against LaGrange, Antoine posted 15 points and 16 rebounds while adding three steals, a block, and two assists. She then led the Tigers to a win over Covenant with 21 points, shooting 88 percent from the field, and grabbing 10 rebounds.   
 
Notable Performances:
  • Haley Franklin (Millsaps) – extended the Majors winning streak to three by leading Millsaps to an unbeaten week. The junior average 19.3 points, seven rebounds and two assists while shooting 19-of-36 from the floor. She netted 26 against Belhaven to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. She then tallied 22 points and eight rebounds against St. Thomas, followed by 10 points and seven rebound over the University of Dallas.
  • Elly Callahan (Berry) – averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Vikings split games against Maryville and Emory. She had 16 points and seven rebounds in a win over Maryville and followed with 12 points and eight boards against Emory.
  • Lilly Ried (Centre) – Led the Colonels to a 2-0 week, averaging 15 points, 2.5 rebounds, and two assists a game. Her weekend was highlighted with a career-high 20 points against Warren Wilson.
  • Giana Vlahakos (Rhodes) – averaged 10.5 points and 16 rebounds in a pair of Lynx victories. She pulled down 18 rebounds to go along with nine points against Ozarks and then grabbed 14 rebounds with 12 points against Huntingdon.
  • Keimarya Rivera (Oglethorpe) – averaged nine points and 4.5 rebounds in two convincing wins for the Stormy Petrels. Highlighted her week with 13 points and seven rebounds against Averett.
