CANTON, Ga. - The Southern Athletic Association schedule is heating up with all conference teams now having one league game under their belts. Centre put an end to Trinity’s 29-SAA game winning streak, downing Tigers 24-12 in Danville. Preseason favorite Berry also moved to 1-0 in the league with a 44-7 win over Southwestern. Rhodes won a Saturday night thriller over Hendrix 34-29 to join the Colonels, Vikings, and idle Millsaps as the SAA’s unbeatens.

OFFENSIVE:
Jack Gohmann | Centre | Junior | Lexington, Ky. – led the Colonels to a 24-12 win over three-time defending SAA champion Trinity. The junior signal caller had an efficient day with several clutch third down throws, completing 19 of 26 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns with zero turnovers. Gohmann had scoring passes of four yards, 11-yards, and a five-yarder early in the fourth to seal the Centre win.
DEFENSIVE:
Mario Brewer Jr. | Centre | Sophomore | Madison, Ala. - was once again a defensive disruptor in one of the most complete team victories of the season for Centre football. The sophomore transfer defensive back finished with six solo tackles, two tackles for loss and added another sack - his eighth on the year - to help the Colonels knock off Trinity 24-12 in the conference opener.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Tyler Huettel | Trinity | Senior | McKinney, Texas - went 2-for-2 on field goals, hitting from 46 and 38 yards as Trinity opened SAA play with a loss to Centre. Huettel also had touchbacks on all four of his kickoffs in the game, while averaging 31 yards per punt - including a 48-yarder among his three attempts.
Notable Performances:
- Taylor Haas (Rhodes) – Led Rhodes in a 2 minute drill (10 plays, 57 yards in 1:51) where he was 6 for 9 to end the first half with a TD Pass. In the 4th quarter, Haas led the Lynx in a second 2 minute drill which turned out to be the game winning drive. In that drive (11 plays / 73 yards) he was 7-10. Taylor Finished the game 20/27 (74%) for 239 yards & 2 TD passes.
- Brandon Cade (Berry) - was instrumental in the win against Southwestern with 13 carries and 86 yards. His three touchdowns on the night (in only three quarters), lifted him to the new Berry TD record at 55 in a career. The previous record was held by Mason Kinsey (now in the NFL).
- Will Taylor (Trinity) - led the Trinity Tiger football team with 8 receptions for 62 yards and the team's only touchdown on Saturday, as Trinity opened SAA play with a road loss to Centre
- Grady Bryant (Berry) - against Southwestern, Bryant played a huge role in holding the Pirates to a shutout until the last nine seconds, when Berry's backups were on the field. During his play he had 9 total tackles and 1 tackle for a loss. His four solo tackles put a stop to any momentum created from Southwestern.
- Cade Rabson (Trinity) - led Trinity's defense with 12 tackles in Saturday's road loss to Centre that opened up SAA play for the Tigers. Rabson and the rest of his defensive teammates held Centre to just 66 yards rushing in the game.
- Charlie Fournier (Southwestern) - punted six times for 251 yards in the Pirate's loss to the Berry College Vikings. Fournier averaged 41.8 yards per punt with a long of fifty-three on the day and was able to pin the Vikings inside the twenty twice in the game.
