SAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Report – Sept. 23, 2024

CANTON, Ga.  – The 2024-25 SAA women’s swimming & diving season got off to a quick start with both Millsaps and Rhodes in action last week. The Majors opened the season by swimming in the Delta State Magnolia Invitational on Friday and then turning around to meet Rhodes in Memphis Saturday. The defending SAA champion Lynx were dominant in their season debut, winning 241-36.

Athletes of the Week:
SWIMMER: Gracie Shapard | Rhodes | Junior | Edmond, Okla.  - had a record-breaking week in the pool to start her junior campaign. She swam the backstroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay, helping her team secure victory with a time of 2:03.36. Shapard then went on to win both the individual 50 and 100-meter backstroke events, clocking an impressive 31.67 in the 50 backstroke and 1:07.50 in the 100 backstroke. In all three events, she set new pool records, showcasing her speed and consistency.
 
DIVER: Lucy Verwys | Rhodes | First Year | Grand Rapids, Mich. -  had an impressive start to her college diving career, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in her first-ever collegiate meet. She posted scores of 247.17 on the 1-meter board and 223.05 on the 3-meter board, demonstrating composure and skill throughout the competition
