CANTON, Ga.  – Millsaps picked up a big win over Maryville this weekend to land two on the athlete of the week honor list with Boehm from Centre gaining the special teams award.

Athletes of the Week:

Offensive:
Grant Bizjack | Millsaps | FR | Trophy Club, TX – Millsaps football freshman quarterback Grant Bizjack was terrific in a 31-21 win over Maryville College during Homecoming on Saturday. He threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns, completing 25-of-35 passes. He added 50 rushing yards off 12 attempts. Maryville entered the game ranked No. 10 in the NCAA DIII National Power Index, making the victory the first win over a ranked team since 2009 and Millsaps' first-ever top 10 win in program history.
 
Defensive:
Luke Bridges | Millsaps | SR | Walnut Hill, FL – Millsaps football senior defensive back Luke Bridges made an impact in the Majors' 31-21 victory over Maryville College during Homecoming on Saturday. He totaled six tackles and grabbed a tone-setting interception. Bridges intercepted a pass midway through the first quarter on a promising Maryville opening drive at the Millsaps 20-yard line. The Majors turned the turnover into three points and a 10-0 lead that the team never gave up. Maryville entered the game ranked No. 10 in the NCAA DIII National Power Index, making the victory the first win over a ranked team since 2009 and Millsaps' first-ever top 10 win in program history.
 
Special Teams:
Will Boehm | Centre | JR | Louisville, KY –Will Boehm made a huge impact on Centre's win over Southwestern on Saturday. Averaging just under 40 yards per punt, Boehm pinned four punts inside the opposing 5-yard line, flipping the field numerous times for the Colonels. Another punt was muffed, leading to a Centre recovery at the Southwestern 5 and a touchdown two plays later.

Offense
  • Christian Lewis | Berry | SR | Calhoun, GA – A senior from Calhoun, GA Lewis helped lead the Vikings to a dominant 44-7 win over Sewanee on Saturday as they stayed undefeated in SAA play. Lewis was nearly perfect going 10-for-12 with 178 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Tycen Williams | Southwestern | SO | Cuero, TX – Williams had another monster game out of the backfield for the Pirates who posted 149 rushing yards of the teams 242 total rushing yards. The sophomore had 149 yards on only 15 attempts, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. The back had a long rush of 37 yards, along with 14 yards receiving on two catches. 
  • Alejandro Tavarez | Trinity | JR | San Antonio, TX – Tavarez had a career day in #23 Trinity University's dominating 63-0 Southern Athletic Association win over Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon. He caught eight passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns, accounting for more than half of Trinity's receiving yards in the game. His eight receptions and 169 yards are new career-best marks and he caught two touchdowns in a game for just the third time in his career. Tavarez scored on a career-long 78-yard touchdown as part of a 20-point third quarter.
 
Defense
  • Chaz Pope | Berry | SR | Spring Garden, AL – A senior from Spring Garden, AL Pope helped lead the Vikings defense in a 44-7 win over Sewanee to stay undefeated in SAA play. Pope had five tackles in the game and a huge interception to lead the team.
  • Ryan Steele | Centre | FR | Alpharetta, GA – Playing in just his second game of the season, Ryan Steele made the most of his first career start. Against Southwestern on Saturday, Steele picked off a pass on the second play of the game and continued to make plays throughout the rest of the game as he finished with five tackles and a sack.
  • Jameer Martin | Southwestern | JR | Cleveland, TX – Martin kept the Pirates in the game defensively in a tight 19-16 loss to Centre. The junior totaled eight tackles with three massive tackles for a loss on 13 yards. Martin helped the Pirates defense to the fewest points given up since week 1 against McMurry. The cornerback-linebacker do it all player also broke up a crucial pass. 
  • Jackson Priesmeyer | Trinity | SO | Sugar Land, TX – Priesmeyer led a defense that recorded its first shutout of the season for the #23 Trinity University football team, defeating Rhodes College (TN) 63-0 in Saturday afternoon Southern Athletic Association action. The Tiger defensive lineman recorded a team-high and career-high seven tackles that included 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack for a seven-yard loss. Trinity held Rhodes to just 103 total yards in the game, which is a season-low for a Tiger opponent this season.
 
Special Teams
  • Nate Lyons | Berry | SR | Smyrna, GA – A senior wide receiver from Smyrna, GA Lyons helped lead the Vikings on a special teams as they took down Sewanee 44-7 to stay undefeated in SAA play. Lyons was dynamic throughout the game as he returned three punts for 65 yards including a long of 49 to setup the Vikings with great field position. He also went 1-for-1 on two point conversions running in the first one of the day to give the Vikings an early 8-0 lead after also catching the first touchdown of the game. Lyons also had 66 yard receiving int he game on three receptions.
  • Connor Babin | Millsaps | SO | Fulshear, TX – Millsaps football sophomore kicker Connor Babin posted another tremendous effort, helping the Majors win 31-21 over Maryville College during Saturday's Homecoming. Babin controlled field position and made an impact on the scoreboard. He finished 4-for-4 on PATs and added a 28-yard field goal. He also posted six kickoffs a total of 376 yards (62.7-yard average). Babin nearly added a 56-yard field goal conversion in the closing seconds of the first half, but just missed wide left. Maryville entered the game ranked No. 10 in the NCAA DIII National Power Index, making the victory the first win over a ranked team since 2009 and Millsaps' first-ever top 10 win in program history.
  • Jack Kayser | Trinity | SO | Austin, TX – Kayser led #23 Trinity University to a dominating 63-0 Southern Athletic Association win over Rhodes College (TN) on Saturday afternoon. Kayser finished the game with 58 yards on two punt returns. He had a 64-yard punt return that put Trinity inside the Rhodes 10, but it was called back to near midfield due to a penalty.
