SEWANEE, Tenn. (May 3, 2025) – For the third time in program history, Sewanee is the champion of the SAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. The Tigers beat nine-time defending champs Rhodes 10-7 on a soggy Saturday afternoon in the final. Sewanee remained perfect on the season, moving to 17-0 and earning the SAA’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Sewanee spread out the scoring with six different players finding the back of the net. Kennedy Harcourt tallied three goals while Brooke Sigmon and Marlin Price each scored twice. Lilly Jordan kept the Lynx attack at bay with eight saves.
Anna Erskine was top goal-getter for Rhodes (11-7) with three. Caroline Kardian had a pair of scores. Olivia Wood and Ford Hoon combined for seven saves.
Harcourt scored two quick goals for the Tigers to set the tone and grab a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Rhodes battled back and tied the score 3-3 and again at 5-5. Harcourt scored again with 12 seconds left before the break to give Sewanee a 6-5 lead at half.
The Tigers blew the game open in the third with a three-goal run to regain control, 9-5. Kardian scored for Rhodes to end the third and get the Lynx to within 9-6, but the teams played even the rest of the way.
Sewanee’s Ella Townsend was named the tournament MVP and joined teammates Marlin Price, Brooke Sigmon, and Harcourt on the All-Tournament Team. Erskine, Bari Pinkett, and Molly Heidrick were All-Tournament for Rhodes.
