SAA Volleyball Report - Sept. 22, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – After opening up with conference action, week four athletes oft he week are taken by Whatley and Caruso of Trinity and Sewanee, respectively.

Athletes of the Week:
Offense:
Reagan Whatley | Trinity | SR | The Woodlands, TX – Whatley led 16th-ranked Trinity to a 3-0 start to the Southern Athletic Association schedule, defeating #15 Berry College (GA), Centre College (KY), and Rhodes College (TN) with three 3-0 wins. Whatley led the Tigers in kills (36 total/4.00 per set), aces (7), and points (47.0) over the weekend, while also hitting .333 with just six errors in 90 attacks. She tied for the match lead with her own teammate in Saturday's 3-0 win over #15 Berry, adding three aces and seven digs to her stat line. Whatley also had nine digs to lead all players in Saturday's finale against Centre, hitting .318 while adding four blocks and five digs. She saved her best for last in Sunday's weekend finale, leading all players again with 15 kills and a .424 hitting percentage. Whatley also had three more aces and six digs along with 19.0 total points.
 
Defense:
Sophia Caruso | Sewanee | JR | Naples, FL – Sophia Caruso averaged 4.6 digs per set as the Tigers went 2-1 in SAA play this weekend. She recorded 71 digs this weekend, including a career-best 38 digs against Millsaps, adding two aces and a kill on the weekend.

Offense
  • Ava Brovet | Berry | FR | Raleigh, NC – A freshman from Raleigh, NC Brovet has been a big part of the Vikings great start to the year. In the first SAA tournament of the year, she led the team with 73 assists for 8.11 assists per set in three games as they started conference play 2-1. Brovet leads the SAA with 8.63 assists per set. 
  • Savannah Gann | Sewanee | JR | Birmingham, AL – Savannah Gann had a dominant weekend for the Tigers with 43 kills on 109 swings as they went 2-1 in SAA play. Gann hit .294 and added 30 digs for 46.5 total points in 10 sets. She matched a season best 19 kills on 51 attempts against Millsaps, recording her third double-double of the season. Against Oglethorpe, she hit .375 with 15 kills on 32 swings.
  • Emily Marks | Southwestern| SR | Cypress, TX – Senior Emily Marks had her biggest showing yet helping the Pirates open up conference with a 3-0 weekend, sweeping Sewanee & Oglethorpe in three set while also defeating Millsaps in four sets. She tallied up 35 kills (3.5 kills/set) for the weekend, also adding 10 digs, 6 total blocks for 37 points. Her best performance was against Millsaps where she racked up 15 kills with only four errors for a weekend best hitting percentage of .367.
 
Defense
  • Andrea Hurt | Berry | JR | Naples, FL – Hurt had 39 digs across a three-game weekend with a game high of 16 against No. 16 Trinity.
  • Tatum Ahrens | Southwestern | FR | Austin, TX – First-year Tatum Ahrens helped lead the Pirates to three impressive wins over the weekend to put the Pirates at 3-0 in conference play. Ahrens posted 33 digs across ten sets averaging 3.3 digs per set and added six blocks to help the Pirates defensively. She also contributed offensively tallying 35 kills (3.5 kills/set) and eight service aces for a weekend total of 46.5 points. In the last game against Millsaps College, Ahrens had her best performance racking up 16 kills, 2 service aces, 13 digs and 4 blocks for multiple career/game-highs.
  • Jenna Rodriguez | Trinity | SR | San Antonio, TX – Rodriguez led the 16th-ranked Trinity volleyball team to three wins to start the Southern Athletic Association schedule, defeating #15 Berry College (GA), Centre College (KY) and Rhodes College (TN) with 3-0 sweeps. Rodriguez had zero reception errors in three matches and led Trinity with 38 total digs (4.3 digs/set). She led the Tigers in digs in all three matches, beginning with a weekend-best 20 digs in just three sets in the win over #15 Berry. Rodriguez also recorded six service aces and 17 assists.
