CANTON, Ga.  – Trinity sweeps week one Women's Tennis awards with stand-out performances from Eva Kovachev and Lucy Nabedrick.

Athletes of the Week: 
Singles: 
Eva Kovachev | Trinity | FR | Arlington, TX – Kovachev led the #11 Trinity women's tennis team to a shutout road win over #29 Whitman College to open the 2026 spring season over the weekend. Kovachev earned a 6-4, 6-2 match-clinching singles win at line three, putting the Tigers up 4-0 at the time and helping to fuel the eventual 7-0 victory. 

Doubles: 
Eva Kovachev | FR |  Arlington, TX  / Lucy Nabedrick | SO |  Plymouth, MN (Trinity) - The #2 doubles team of Kovachev and Nabedrick led 11th-ranked Trinity to a 7-0 road win over #29 Whitman to open the season over the weekend. The Tiger duo won 6-2 to clinch the doubles point and push the Tigers to the shutout victory.


Notable Performances
Singles:

  • Riley McClain | Millsaps | SO | Vestavia Hills, AL – Millsaps women's tennis sophomore Riley McClain opened the season strong in a pair of matches at Blue Mountain Christian and Huntingdon. The Majors split the weekend as McClain won 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) against her BMCU foe on Saturday. She claimed a second win on Court Two with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 decision at Huntingdon on Sunday. 
  • Harper High | Sewanee | SO | Tampa, FL – Harper High picked up a straight sets win at line two, 6-3, 6-3 against Cumberland University on Saturday in an hour and 10 minutes. 
  • Addison Powell | Southwestern | FR | Sugar Land, TX – Freshman Addison Powell delivered a clutch performance to seal the Pirates’ 4–3 victory against East Texas Baptist University, earning the match-clinching point with a win at No. 6 singles. Powell dominated the opening set 6–0 before closing out the match in a pressure-filled 7–6 (7–1) tiebreak, showcasing composure beyond her years and making a decisive impact in a tight team win

Doubles:

  • Ivy Wilson |  Tulsa, OK  / Mariella Congeni |  New Orleans, LA (Sewanee) - Ivy Wilson and Mariella Congeni opened the season with a doubles win at line one against Cumberland University on Saturday, 6-4.
