CANTON, Ga. - Sewanee athletes sweep week one of Field Hockey Athletes of the Week.

Athletes of the Week
Offense:
Faith Erickson | Sewanee | FR | Edmond, OK  – Faith Erickson had an outstanding week in her first collegiate games, scoring two goals and two assists in three games, helping Sewanee to their first 3-0 start since 2015. Against Transylvania and Roanoke, she added a goal and an assist. Against Roanoke, she had a hand on each of Sewanee’s goals. 

Defense:
Kylie Carter | Sewanee | JR | Fort Worth, TX  – Kylie Carter anchored Sewanee’s defensive line at centre back, helping Sewanee to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2015. Carter was the driving force in stopping the counterattack while playing a total of 120 minutes throughout three games. In all three games, she played a significant role in keeping the number of shots against the Tigers to five. 
 

 Notable Performances:

Offense
  • Olivia Vonderheide | Centre | SO | Louisville, KY  –  Olivia had 3 goals in 2 games, with 10 shots on goal on 13 total shots. That’s an average of 1.5 goals and 5 shots on goal per game, showing consistent offensive production and strong shot accuracy.
  • Paige Armijo | Concordia | SR | Reseda, CA  –  Added an assist in the victory over Oberlin and scored the lone CUW goal at Kenyon. 
  • Bella Spina | Rhodes | SR | Voorhees, NJ  –  2 goal and 2 assist performance.  In addition to her statistics she was an absolute energizer in the center of our attack allowing us to apply pressure throughout both of our games.
Defense
  • Ashley Hamilton | Centre | JR | Louisville, KY  – Ashley Hamilton had a strong two-game performance, recording 3 goals on 7 shots, including 4 shots on goal, while contributing on both sides of the ball.  Hamilton’s three goals over the two-game stretch made her a major contributor and helped her team on both ends of the field.
  • Carlijn van der Bend | Concordia | JR | Voorburg, Netherlands  – Posted a shutout in the season-opening victory over Oberlin with three saves … Posted four saves at Kenyon on Saturday. 
  • Layla Anderson | Rhodes | SR | Framingham, MA  – Her speed and strength on our defensive line shut down numerous opponent attacks before they could form and allowed our defense to keep our opponents to one shot on goal over the course of two games.
