BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (October 29, 2022) – The Centre women’s cross country team won its sixth-straight Southern Athletic Association title in convincing fashion on Saturday, led by two-time SAA Runner of the Year Meghan Owens.
The Colonels took four of the top-5 and seven of the top-10 individual spots to post a winning score of 16 points. Berry finished runner up with 73 points while Rhodes rounded out the top three with 77.
Owens led the pack wire-to-wire, stopping the clock at 22:30.7. The senior became the third two-time winner in SAA history, also taking last year’s title with a time of 23:15. Her winning-time this year was the 15
th-fastest in SAA Championship history.
Centre freshman Sophie Bouldin was runner-up in a time of 23:02.9 to capture SAA Newcomer of the Year honors. She is the fifth Centre runner to earn the award finishing just ahead of teammate and last year’s Newcomer of the Year Erin Haugh (23:44.3). Anna Shupert gave Centre the top-four spots, finishing in 23:44.4 while Kate Freyaldenhoven of Rhodes posted a top-five finish in 23:47.6.
Birmingham-Southern served as host of the championship at Veteran’s Park in Hoover, Alabama.
