SAA Volleyball Report – Oct. 14, 2024

CANTON, Ga.  -  Winners of five straight and sitting at 6-0 in Southern Athletic Association volleyball play, Centre leads the conference standings heading into the second half of the league schedule. The Colonels have won the last three in five-sets and will visit Sewanee on Monday afternoon.  Berry I second at 5-1 in the SAA while Rhodes is third at 4-3.

Athletes of the Week:
OFFENSIVE: Kym Young | Rhodes | Senior | Germantown, Tenn. – powered Rhodes to a split SAA weekend, falling to Berry and beating Oglethorpe. Against the Vikings, Young hit .438 with seven kills, no errors, and 16 attempts.  In the Lynx win over the Stormy Petrels, she put down 14 kills out of 24 swings while hitting .458 on her senior day match.  
 
DEFENSIVE: June Padilla | Centre | Senior | Murfreesboro, Tenn. – for the fourth-straight week June Padilla enjoyed a standout performance. The senior tallied 39 digs in a five-set thriller over Millsaps that kept Centre unbeaten in SAA play. Her mark represented a new career high for the senior libero and the most digs by a Centre player in any game this season.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Mack Turner (Centre) - had a career day for Centre volleyball as she finished with 18 kills in the Colonels' marathon 3-2 win over Millsaps on Saturday. Turner eclipsed her career high mark in kills while also hitting .421 for the game, one of her highest hitting percentages of the season.
  • Trista Naquin (Millsaps) – hit .357 over three matches for the Majors. She had a big day in a 3-1 win over Sewanee with 14 kills.
  • Madison Williams (Oglethorpe) - capped a great week with 13 kills without any errors in Sunday's 3-0 SAA win over Hendrix. It was her season high for kills and came with a .684 hitting percentage for the match. 
  • Sandy Bourgeois (Millsaps) - continues to lead the conference in digs per set. During the Majors 2-1 week, she had double-digit digs in each match. The sophomore capped the week with 18 digs and a service ace against Sewanee.
  • Legacy Guider (Oglethorpe) - had a solid week with 23 digs in six sets, including 14 in a quick 3-0 SAA win for Oglethorpe to wrap up the week on Sunday.
  • Sophia Caruso (Sewanee) - was a key player for the Tigers' defense, posting a career-high 30 digs against Millsaps on Sunday. The libero also added three service aces and four assists, while keeping numerous plays alive for her team.
