SAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Report – Oct. 7, 2024

CANTON, Ga.  – Centre dedicated its pool against Evansville as part of a busy Southern Athletic Association first weekend in October. Rhodes went on the road twice, beating Ozarks Friday and Hendrix Saturday in dual meets. Berry visited Sewanee to take part in the Tigers’ Relay Invitational.

Athletes of the Week:
SWIMMER: Adeline Carroll | Rhodes | Senior | Vestavia Hills, Ala. - had an outstanding weekend, delivering top performances across multiple events. On Friday night, she anchored the winning 200 medley relay with a swift 24.07 split, contributing to their time of 1:51.29. She then went on to win the 1000 freestyle in 10:50.84 and the 100 freestyle in 54.43. Adeline also posted the fastest split on the winning 200 free relay, clocking 24.65, with a total relay time of 1:42.23. On Saturday, she continued her dominance, anchoring the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.07, improving on the previous night’s performance. She claimed individual victories in the 200 free (1:57.46) and the 200 IM (2:11.27), winning the IM by over 5 seconds. Adeline capped off the weekend with a 54.42 split on the winning 400 free relay, which finished in 3:40.33.
 
DIVER: Lucy Verwys | Rhodes | First Year | Grand Rapids, Mich. - delivered another strong weekend of performances, securing victories on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. On Friday, she took first place on the 1-meter board for 11 dives with a regional qualifying score of 410.85, showcasing her consistency and precision. On Saturday, she won the 1-meter event again, this time for 6 dives, with a score of 243.15. Lucy also claimed the top spot on the 3-meter board, earning a score of 231.45. 
Notable Performance:
  • Ashley Young (Berry) - led the Vikings at the Sewanee Invitational. She claimed the 2nd fastest relay split time in conference during the 31.40 breaststroke split (31.40) The junior posted a time of 2:03.10 in her 200m leg during the 500m relay. Young now has the fastest time in the SAA for the for the 400 IM relay with a split time of 1:03.43. She also placed 2nd in the mixed medley relay with a split time of 25.06
  • Ada Digby (Sewanee) -  had an impressive debut in her first collegiate competition, earning two second-place finishes. Competing at a relay meet hosted by Sewanee, Digby contributed to her team's second-place finish in the 500-yard 50-100-150-200 relay and the 200 free relay, with the latter clocking a time of 1:43.17. She also helped her teams secure a fourth-place finish in the 200 mixed relay, a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly relay, and a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
  • Katie Walker (Sewanee) - competed in the Moultrie Diving Invitational, hosted by the University of West Florida, where she participated in six dives on the 1m board. Walker placed seventh, performing dives that included a forward 2 somersault pike, back dive tuck, reverse dive pike, inward 1 ½ somersault tuck, forward 1 ½ somersault with 1 twist free, and a back 1 ½ somersault with ½ twist free. Walkers highest score came on the inward 1 ½ somersault tuck, registering score of 37.40.
