SAA Women's Swimming and Diving Report - Oct. 21, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – Kaitlyn Phan of Trinity and Riley Taylor of Centre earn week five Athlete of the Week honors from the Southern Athletic Association.

Athletes of the Week:  
Swimming:  
Kaitlyn Phan | Trinity | FR | Austin, TX – First-year Kaitlyn Phan was a backstroke force at Saturday’s dual meet against St. Thomas (TX). She posted a 59.54 to win the 100 backstroke and a 2:10.82 to take gold in the 200. Those times would have put her fifth at last year’s SAA Championships in both of those individual events. Kaitlyn also led off the 200 medley relay with a backstroke split of 27.61. Only two A relays at last year’s SAA Championships had backstrokers faster than that. 

Diving:  
Riley Taylor | Centre | FR | Franklin, TN – Riley Taylor posted scores of 192.97 (1 meter) and 188.62 (3 meter), which were team bests as Centre Diving competed in an exhibition scored event. Neither Campbellsville nor Midway sent divers to the tri-match. 



Notable Performances: 

  • Ashley Young | Berry | SR | Chattanooga, TN– A senior from Chattanooga, TN Young helped lead the Vikings at the Emmanuel Invite as she finished third in the 200 IM with a 2:14.33 and 6th in the 100 Back with a 1:02.81. She also swam in both relays as the Vikings finished 5th in the 200 Medley with a 1:57.55 and 6th in the 200 Free with a 1:45.11 

  • Ava Gates | Centre | FR | Shelbyville, KY – Ava Gates won the 200 IM in a tri-match against Campbellsville and Midway on Tuesday night. Her time of 2:15.31 was nearly 3 seconds faster than the field. Her 3rd split time of 36.82 seconds was the only one below 37 seconds among all swimmers. Gates swam the lead leg of the 200 free in a time of 26.24 seconds, propelling her team to a win by nearly 2 seconds. She also swam a strong 2nd leg of the 200 medley relay with a time of 30.97 seconds to help her team to a 2nd place finish.
