Berry Rallies to Earn 2025 SAA Championship Crown

GEORGETOWN, Tx. - The fourth seeded Vikings got the job done today, upending No. 2 Southwestern in the 2025 Southern Athletic Association championship, 2-1.

Berry earned their first SAA championship for the first time since the Spring 2021 season (that was delayed due to COVID). This time the Vikings did it by upsetting the No. 1 and No. 2 seed who are both ranked nationally in the top 25.

Today, both teams headed to the second half at zero in windy conditions. The Pirates broke the tie right into the second half in the 51st minute. The Vikings tried to answer but would not be able to until late in the game. A goal from Max Albertson in the 83rd minute equalized the championship match.

Tied once again, each team owned up ready to fight until the end. Timothy Ratokhin Timonthy Ratokhin was brought down in the penalty box, granting a chance for the Vikings to end the game before heading into overtime.

At the critical juncture, it was Max Albertson who was chosen for the penalty kick. Albertson shot it past the Pirate goalie to clinch and win the game.

Berry has earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The selection show will be held Monday, November 10 at 11:30 a.m. ET and can be viewed here
