SAA Baseball Report – February 24, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – SAA baseball continues to roll through the early season, nonconference schedule posting a combined record of 38-11 (.775 winning percentage). Sewanee is a perfect 7-0 to lead the standings while Rhodes is 8-1; both teams are on seven-game winning streaks. Millsaps (6-1) and Centre (4-1) have only dropped one game apiece while Berry is averaging nearly 13 runs a game to sit at 7-3.

Drake Job | Hendrix | Senior | Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. - went 6-10 over the weekend in the Warriors' home doubleheader versus New York University and a single contest versus Dominican, scoring five runs and tallying four RBIs. The senior went 2-2 in Hendrix's 12-4 over the Violets, scoring 4 of those runs and knocking in another while drawing a couple walks to boot. He went 1-3 in the second game of the doubleheader with 1 run scored, 2 RBIs, and drawing 3 walks. Against Dominican on Sunday, Job hit 3-for-5 and tallied an RBI.
 
Pitcher:
Zac Sohosky | Rhodes | Junior | Bentonville, Ark. - had a dominating performance to raise his record to 3-0 on the season.  In a pitcher's duel between 2 great pitchers, Sohosky carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning before allowing a lead off single.  For the game Sohosky threw 7 innings, allowing 1 hit and 0 runs and striking out 11.  The Lynx ran their winning streak to 7 games in a 7-0 win over a very strong Spalding baseball team that won over 30 games last year.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Riley Uhls (Berry) -  in a four-game week, hit .412 with 11 RBIs and five runs scored. At the D3 College Showcase, Uhls went 7-13 at the plate in three wins scoring four runs. Uhls had 10 RBIs and three doubles as he led the team to two run rules in North Carolina.
  • Ben Prather (Centre) -  hit .462 for the Colonels in their weekend tournament, playing a major role in all three games. He had six hits, five runs and four RBIs, including the biggest hit of the weekend as his bases loaded single in the bottom of the tenth earned Centre a 6-5 walk-off win against Brevard.
  • Bradley Pelle (Millsaps) - had a stellar weekend at the plate for the Majors in their series win over LeTourneau. He batted 6-for-11 with a home run, six RBIs, five runs, five walks, a double and three stolen bases.
  • Cooper Krause (Oglethorpe) – in a split, four-game series against Kalamazoon, posted two multihit games with an average of .375 for the weekend, adding four runs, four RBI's, two doubles, three walks, a stolen base and a home run. His home run came in game two and helped Oglethorpe pull away in the seventh inning for the win. Krause struck out only three times in 19 plate appearances.
  • Corbin Kinder (Rhodes) - recorded a hit and at least 1 run in all 3 games this week pacing the offense to a 3-0 record.  On the week Kinder was 3 for 8 with 4 walks, 5 runs, 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases.  He reached base safely in all 5 at bats against Oneonta.  On the week his OBP was .583
  • Will Jennewein (Sewanee) - batted .500 (5-for-10) across four games this week, including two multi-hit games. He tallied three RBIs and scored three runs. He also showed patience at the plate, drawing a walk in every game over the weekend. On Sunday against Otterbein, Jennewein went 2-for-3 with two RBIs (2-run single), a run scored, and a stolen base. He singled and scored a run after entering as a sub in Monday’s win over Brandeis and posted two hits in the second game over Saturday’s doubleheader versus Otterbein. The Tampa, Fla., native is off to an impressive start to his collegiate career, boasting a .571 batting average through the early stretch of the season.
  • Jackson Halla (Berry) - earned the game two win at the D3 College Showcase in Kannapolis, N.C. this past weekend. Throwing 6 innings he allowed 5 hits and 1 run with 10 strikeouts. He led the Vikings defensively to hold off Swarthmore and run rule them at 11-1.
  • Harrison Cowdrey (Centre) - picked up his second win in as many starts as Centre earned a run rule victory over Carthage. Centre's ace pitched an efficient six innings, allowing one run while striking out seven in the Colonels' 11-1 win.
  • Dylan Kalmus (Hendrix) - toed the rubber for Hendrix in their first game of a doubleheader with New York University on Saturday at Warrior Baseball Field and was the pitcher of record in the Warriors' 12-4 win. The sophomore allowed just 1 run on 3 hits in 5.0 innings and struck out 7 Violets while allowing just 4 baserunners en route to the winning decision.
  • Nick Tarantino (Millsaps) - was outstanding on the mound against LeTourneau on Friday. He recorded a career-best 14 strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Tarantino helped secure an 11-4 win, holding the YellowJackets to two runs, one walk, one hit by pitch and five hits.
  • Matt Munn (Sewanee) - threw seven shutout innings, leading the Tigers to a 6-0 win against Otterbein in game one on Saturday. Munn allowed just two hits, struck out five, and walked one.
