Baseball 3/11/2026 5:17:00 PM Sewanee Athletic Communications Fortman named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee junior infielder Zach Fortman has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Hitter of the Week following a outstanding stretch at the plate for the Tigers. The Clinton, S.C. native hit an astounding .733 (11-for-15) across four games, recording six extra-base hits while driving in 18 runs and scoring nine times. Fortman's week included one double, two triples, and three home runs as he helped power Sewanee's offense in games against Covenant and Asbury. Fortman began the week with a 3-for-5 performance against Covenant, adding a double and scoring three runs. He then delivered a dominant showing in Saturday's doubleheader against Asbury. In the opener against Asbury, Fortman went 4-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs. After singling home a run and hitting a two-run homer earlier in the game, he broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning with a bases-clearing triple to lift Sewanee. Fortman followed with one of the most explosive offensive games of the season in the second contest of the doubleheader. He finished with nine RBIs, highlighted by a grand slam and a three-run home run in the first five innings. He also added an RBI triple and drew a bases-loaded walk in the game. Fortman capped the weekend with another hit and a run scored in the series finale against Asbury. His standout week also earned him Southern Athletic Association Player of the Week honors. Through 14 games this season, Fortman is batting .463 with three triples, three home runs, 25 RBIs, and 17 runs scored for the Tigers.
