Athlete of the Week:
Jessica Mason | Trinity | SR | Westminster, CO – Mason led #19 Trinity to a third-place finish at the Westbrook Invitational over the weekend, finishing behind #16 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and #13 Redlands. Mason finished second individually with a two-over score of 144 over the two-day event, shooting even par 71 to start the weekend, then finishing with a two-over 73 in Sunday's final round.
Notable Performances:
- Janie Morgan | Centre | SR | Louisvile, KY – Janie Morgan competed at Westbrook Village Golf Club - Lakes Course and finished with a two-round total of 152 (+10). In Round 1, she shot a 77 (+6), recording a 38 on the front nine (+2) and 39 on the back nine (+4). Her round began strongly with a birdie on the opening par-4, but several bogeys and a double bogey on the final hole pushed the score higher. In Round 2, Morgan improved to a 75 (+4), showing more consistency throughout the day. She posted a 37 on the front nine (+1) and 38 on the back nine (+3), highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole. Compared with the first round, she reduced big mistakes and kept more holes around par, allowing her to shave two strokes off her score. Overall, Morgan showed better control and steadiness in the second round, finishing the event with a solid top performance improvement from day one to day two.
- Dounia Bezzari | Oglethorpe | FR | Vero Beach, FL – Oglethorpe freshman Dounia Bezzari picked up right where she left off in the fall, leading the Stormy Petrels in the spring opener with a 76-75 (+5) at the Savannah Invitational. She was the top competitor among SAA members and finished T28 on the individual leaderboard. It helped Oglethorpe take 12th as a team. Bezzari shot even for the tournament on the par 3's, ranking seventh in that category. She also posted 26 pars which ranked ninth overall. - Lauren Schwing | Rhodes – Lauren Schwing delivered a standout performance at the Port City Classic, earning Runner-Up honors after posting rounds of 79-69 (148). Schwing’s final-round 69 (-2) marked a career and collegiate low round, highlighted by six birdies, including two chip-ins from off the green that helped propel her up the leaderboard. Her impressive closing round secured a 2nd-place individual finish in the tournament and played a key role for the Lynx.
- Natalie Catapano | Sewanee | FR | Pacific Palisades, CA – Natalie Catapano led Sewanee at the Savannah Spring Invitational, finishing tied for 40th in a 99-player field while helping the Tigers improve by 13 strokes in the final round and move up three spots in the team standings. Catapano posted a two-round score of 150 (73-77) at the par-73 Club at Savannah Harbor. She opened the tournament with a three-over 73, highlighted by three birdies and eight pars, including a stretch of two-under golf across 12 holes. In the final round, the Pacific Palisades, Calif., native recorded three birdies in her first four holes and added additional birdies later in the round to finish with a four-over 77. Catapano led Sewanee individually in the tournament and was the Tigers’ top finisher in the 19-team event.
