SAA 2023 Volleyball Report – Week 6

Atlanta, Ga. – SAA volleyball teams put the first round of the conference schedule in the rearview mirror with Berry sitting on top of the standings heading into the backend of the slate.
 
The 13th-ranked Vikings are 7-0 in league play and have won 31 of their last 32 conference matches with the lone setback coming at the hands of Centre last season. The Colonels sit second in the SAA standings at 6-1 while Sewanee is 5-2 at the season’s midpoint.

Athletes of the Week:
OFFENSIVE: Cate Rosenthal | Oglethorpe | Senior | Boca Raton, Fla. – Helped the Stormy Petrels pick up a pair of road wins, racking up 24 kills over the weekend. The senior tallied nine kills in a sweep of Hendrix before a monster game against Rhodes the following day. Rosenthal hit .406 with 15 kills, a season high in four-sets, and had one dig to lift OU to a 3-1 victory.
 
DEFENSIVE: Adele Cassidy | Sewanee | Senior | Tampa, Fla. – Averaged 5.33 digs per set and led Sewanee to a pair of victories. Against Birmingham-Southern, the senior totaled 29 digs and had a service ace. The following day, she racked up 22 digs and led the Tigers to a five-set victory.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Kylie Wilhelmi (Birmingham-Southern) – Racked up 35 kills over three matches for BSC. The sophomore rolled up 15 in five sets against Millsaps to start the weekend and closed with 15 kills and a .324 hitting percentage against Sewanee.
  • Olivia Jones (Sewanee) – Led the Tigers to a pair of victories, hitting .372 for the week. She had six kills with no errors against BSC and 11 kills with just one error against Millsaps.
  • Lura Underwood (Berry) – Helped the Vikings to a 2-0 week, averaging 3.7 kills per set and hitting .339. She posted a career-best 17 kills against Hendrix and added 19 digs.
  • Syd Bietz (Centre) – Led Centre to a pair of SAA road wins, hitting .203 for the weekend. The newcomer recorded 11 kills against Birmingham-Southern and followed with 14 against Millsaps, both game-highs.  
  • Yzzi Dsamou (Rhodes) – Totaled 35 kills in matches against Berry and Oglethorpe over the weekend. The newcomer had 15 kills and five digs against Berry and was huge against OU, hitting .354 with 20 kills.
  • Catalina Williams (Hendrix) – Totaled 12 kills and hit .278 in a pair of matches. The junior had eight kills against Berry to go along with five digs, followed by four kills without an error against Oglethorpe.
  • Grace Waddell (Birmingham-Southern) – Racked up 46 digs over three matches, including 18 against Millsaps and 22 against Sewanee.
  • Sofia Cendoya (Oglethorpe) – Led OU to a pair of victories with over 20 digs in each match. She tallied 21 against Hendrix and 25 against Rhodes.
  • Kate Whittle (Berry) – Posted back-to-back 20 dig over a pair of SAA teams. Totaled 31 digs against Hendrix and followed with 23 against Rhodes, averaging 6.75 per set.
  • Madi Barron (Centre) – Led the Colonels to a pair of SAA sweeps over the weekend. She finished with a game-high 20 digs against Birmingham-Southern and added 21 the following day, averaging seven per set for the weekend.
  • Maggie Mathis (Rhodes) – Totaled 30 digs for the weekend. She totaled 10 against Berry and 20 against Oglethorpe.
  • Camryn Presley (Hendrix) – Averaged 5.57 digs per set over two matches. The senior totaled 22 against Berry and added 17 against Oglethorpe.
  • Margaret Richardson (Millsaps) – Led the Majors with 67 total digs in three matches. The senior highlighted her week with 28 against Birmingham-Southern and 26 against Sewanee for 5.2 digs per set during the week.
