SAA Volleyball Report – Oct. 28, 2024

CANTON, Ga.  -  Winners of its last nine overall and a perfect 10-0 in the SAA, Centre clinched the 2024 SAA volleyball regular season title for the first time in school history. The Colonels outlasted Millsaps in five-sets on Saturday afternoon to claim the crown and hosting duties for the conference tournament as the top-seed.
 
Berry is second in the standings after falling to Rhodes and beating Hendrix to close October. Millsaps has a half-game lead on Rhodes in the middle of the standings while Oglethorpe is sixth coming out of a two-win weekend.

Athletes of the Week:
OFFENSIVE: Riley Brady | Hendrix | Sophomore | Little Rock, Ark. - had a pair of double doubles this past weekend against Oglethorpe and Berry. The sophomore hit .364 and .344 on a solid 54 attempts. She earned 3.6 points/set on the weekend as well as 3.1 kills/set. Brady had zero reception errors on 24 attempts. 
 
DEFENSIVE: June Padilla | Centre | Senior | Murfreesboro, Tenn. -  had a career day for Centre volleyball as the Colonels defeated Millsaps to clinch the outright regular season title for the first time in program history. In a five-set thriller, the senior libero set a new career high with 44 digs. She also hit a career milestone, surpassing 1,000 career digs in the victory.
Notable Performances:
  • Madie Whitehead (Berry) -  enjoyed a solid, three match week. Against Oglethorpe Whitehead blasted 13 kills, hit .632 and added 4 blocks and against Rhodes she added 22 kills, hit .333 and added three blocks. She only played back row against Hendrix and added 4 aces. 
  • Hollye Tate (Centre) -  had one of her best games of the season as Centre defeated Millsaps to clinch the regular season title. Tate finished with 14 kills - one shy of a career high - against just one error for a hitting percentage of .295, a game high among hitters with 15 or more attempts.
  • Yzzi Dsamou (Rhodes) - had solid games this week with our 5 set win with Berry College and 5 set loss to Oglethorpe.  Total of 39 kills, hitting .157 for the weekend.  This was the first time Rhodes had beat Berry since 2015.
  • Mary Addisyn Stubbs (Hendrix) – was Hendrix top defensive player this past weekend earning 4.75 digs/set vs Oglethorpe in 4 sets and then earning 7.25 digs/set in 4 sets vs Berry. 
  • Sandy Bourgeois (Millsaps) – led the Majors defense in a stellar weekend.  The sophomore posted 33 digs is a 5 set battle with Centre and 21 digs in a win against Sewanee.  She sits at the top of the digs per set category in conference where she has consistently stood all year and kept Millsaps in #1 digs in conference.  
  • Hope Wehrli (Rhodes) - had a great weekend blocking both in her match against Berry and Oglethorpe.  Total of 12 blocks, 11 assists and 1 solo.  Hope has tied the conference match high with 7 blocks against Oglethorpe.
