DANVILLE, Ky. (February 24, 2024) – Behind seven individual and one relay victory, Centre earned the first women’s SAA Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday. The Colonels hosted the event at the new Champions Hall in Danville.

Centre sophomore Sophie Bouldin was named the women’s athlete of the meet with gold medals in the mile, 800, and distance medley relay. Colonels leader Lisa Owens was voted the SAA Coach of the Year.
Centre totaled 253 points in the meet with Berry scoring 186.5 in second place. Rhodes was third with 112.5 points.
Field events got the final day of the championship started Saturday morning. Berry’s Madeline Hubbert and Rhodes’ Kendra Payne both cleared 3.36 meters in the pole vault with Hubbert taking gold on misses. Ella Pine of Berry was third with a height of 3.21 meters. Centre showcased its depth in the triple jump with a podium sweep. Jasmine Claunch won with a leap of 12.14 meters, Serena McNielly was second (11.49m) and Shelby Smith third (10.90m). Onoyeme Egure won the shot put for Berry with a toss of 12.53 meters. Lauren Foutch of Centre was second (12.27m) and Berry’s Malysha Wintson third (12.03m).
Bouldin’s win in the mile with a time of 5:21.82 started the track events. Berry’s Asena Anderson was second (5:27.81) and Centre’s Erin Haugh third (5:28.22). Emily Thompson led a Berry trio to the podium in the 60 meter hurdles, winning in 9.24 seconds. Macy Murdock was second (9.62) and Josie Loggins third (9.67).
Thora Pearson of Rhodes on the 400 meter dash in 59.70. Madjo Doumbia of Centre was second in 1:00.21 and Murdock of Berry took third (1:00.47). The 60 meter dash also belonged to Rhodes as Olivia Freeman won in 7.67 seconds. Doumbia was second in 7.84 and Claunch third in 7.99.
Bouldin’s second win was in the 800 in a time of 2:22.18. Anna Rose of Berry was second in 2:25.55 and Centre’s Adelyn Shupert third (2:26.02). Freeman became a double-winner, taking first in the 200 meter dash in 25.55. Doumbia was second (25.58) and Chloe Hein third (26.27).
Meghan Owens of Center captured gold in the 3k with a time of 10:28.36. Hastings Gray of Berry was second in 10:40.47 and Cara Taylor of Centre third (10:43.96).
The Rhodes quartet of Shannen Alack, Olivia Clark, Isabel Farnsworth, and Thora Pearson won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:06.94. Berry was second and Centre third.
