SAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field Report – February 17, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – It was a busy weekend for SAA women’s indoor track & field teams with everyone in action over four events in four different states. Centre hosted an invitational and multievent competition with Sewanee joining the Colonels for the weekend. Berry, Millsaps, and Oglethorpe were in Birmingham for the Samford Open while Rhodes participated in the Southern Illinois DonDeNoon Invitational.

Track Athlete of the Week:
Evan Thomas | Oglethorpe | Sophomore | Kennesaw, Ga. – had a breakout performance for the Stormy Petrels at the Bulldog Open. The sophomore posted a time of 25.85 in the 200m dash at the CrossPlex, finishing with the fourth fastest time in the SAA this season.
 
Field Athlete of the Week:
Emory Rhodes | Sewanee | First Year | Dallas, Texas - won the pole vault for Sewanee at the Centre Invitational. She cleared 10-feet, 2-inches in the pole vault for first place, breaking her own school record in the event. She added to her day with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Lucy Nicholson (Berry) - finished second in her heat of the 200m with a new PR and Indoor School Record at 26.58.
  • Fran Edwards (Millsaps) - opened the indoor season swiftly at the Samford Bulldog Invite on Saturday. She set the school record in the indoor 5000 meters with a time of 19 minutes, 20.83 seconds and claimed first place inside the Birmingham CrossPlex.
  • Journey Morrison (Sewanee) - second in the 60-meter hurdles for Sewanee at the Centre Invitational. The freshman posted a qualifying time of 10.05 (fifth-best among 13 runners) and then clocked a time of 9.52, the second fastest time in school history in the event.
  • Avery Jones (Berry) - had a great showing with a fourth place finish in the weight throw at 15.28m, a season best and now leads the SAA.
