SAA Baseball Report – March 10, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – Conference play got underway over the weekend with three game sweeps by Centre and Hendrix. The 25th-ranked Colonels took out 13th-ranked Rhodes by a combined score of 35-12 in the series and moved to 10-1 on the season, winners of nine-straight. Hendrix hosted Sewanee and earned a big three-game sweep, winning the finale on a walk-off walk. Oglethorpe moved to 10-4 on the year and is riding a seven-game winning streak after a weekend sweep of Husson.

Athlete:
Jonathan Cruz | Oglethorpe | Senior | Chicago, Ill. -  batted a whopping .706 (12-for-17) across four games this week, leading the Stormy Petrels to four wins as they extended their winning streak to seven games. He tied the Oglethorpe individual record for runs scored in a game when he crossed the plate five times in Oglethorpe's team scoring record-tying 24-4 midweek win. This came alongside a four-hit game, the first of two four-hit games for the week as he also posted a 4-for-4 effort in the finale of a three-game weekend series. For the week, Cruz scored seven runs, hit two doubles, drove in four runs, walked twice and stole a base on his only attempt.
 
Pitcher:
Ben Prather | Centre | Junior | Lexington, Ky. -  tossed a seven-inning shutout to get his second win of the season in Centre's 4-0 victory against Rhodes on Mar. 8. Prather went the distance in the second game of the doubleheader sweep for the Colonels, allowing just three hits while striking out seven in the win, which is the only time Rhodes has been shut out this season.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Jackson Collett (Berry) - In the win over Marietta, Collett threw 5.2 innings allowing only five hits and two runs (one of those being earned). He had six strikeouts and was instrumental on the mound for the Vikings to secure the 10-2 win.
  • Dylan Kamus (Hendrix) - Improved to 4-0 on the year with a stellar performance versus Sewanee in Game 2 of Hendrix's three-game sweep of the Tigers. The sophomore allowed just 1 run on 5 hits in 6.0 innings, striking out 9 hitters without a walk and limiting Sewanee to just 5 base runners in the Warriors' 17-1 win.
  • Nick Tarantino (Millsaps) - was stellar in an 11-1 win over MUW in Montgomery, Ala. on Friday. He pitched seven innings and tossed five strikeouts. He held the Owls to one run, one walk and six hits.
  • Dylan Quintilio (Oglethorpe) - pitched four perfect innings across two games, closing the door on Husson twice to help the Stormy Petrels extend their winning streak to seven games. Oglethorpe led 6-5 Friday night and 4-3 Saturday afternoon when Quintilio entered into the game. In each appearance, he retired the side in order in both the eighth and ninth innings to earn his third and fourth save of the year. Saturday's game saw him strike out the first four batters, among the six batters he faced. 
  • Charles Pulaski (Berry) – hit .412 for the week with five runs scored and two RBI. He had a standout second game against Marietta in the win. He went 4-5 at the plate scoring three runs with two RBIs.
  • Evan Weyler (Centre) - hit .455 (5-11) over three games as Centre completed a weekend sweep of no. 13 Rhodes. The All-SAA catcher drove in five runs in the series, recording RBIs in all three games, including three in Centre's 22-10 win on Sunday to finish off the sweep. He also scored five of Centre's 35 runs in the series.
