Athletes of the Week
Offense:
Brady Hammer | Maryville | JR | Knoxville, TN – Hammer had a good week for the Scots offensively, totaling six points on two goals and two assists (one each against Piedmont and Warren Wilson). The junior continues to be a force for the Scots, contributing critical goals and assists in both games this week.
Defense:
TJ Bass | Southwestern | SO | Houston, TX – Bass has played a massive factor in the Pirates 7-game win streak and 6-game shutout streak as the Pirates went 2-0 again this week. Bass had eight saves with zero goals allowed, also dominating the air with full confidence. Bass had a career-high six saves on Sunday against Austin College. The sophomore has an incredible .886 save percentage this season.
Notable Performances
Offense
- Landon Guenther | Southwestern | SR | Spring, TX – Guenther dominated the week as the Pirates went 2-0 with seven straight wins. On Thursday, Southwestern struggled to find scoring chances against LeTourneau before Guenther fired a missile from 40 yards out for the game-winner off the post and in. The goal marked the best shot of the season, especially given the circumstances of avoiding a home tie. On Sunday, Guenther scored again on a corner as the junior also helped the Pirates dominate possession in the midfield, while surrendering zero goals. Guenther has done it all also contributing heavily to six straight shutouts.
- Hodge MacDonald | Trinity | SO | Hertford, England – MacDonald led Trinity to a 1-0-1 record over the weekend, rallying for a 3-3 tie with UC-Santa Cruz on Friday and then hammering Concordia (TX) in a 7-0 victory on Sunday. MacDonald scored the eventual game-winning goal in Sunday’s win over Concordia in the 25th minute and also had assists in both games. He assisted on a goal to start Trinity’s second-half rally against UCSC, then had another to put the Tigers up 4-0 late in the half against Concordia.
Defense
- Edward Steinwand | Millsaps | SO | Fellsmere, FL – Millsaps college men's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Edward Steinwand posted his fifth shutout of the season, helping the Majors better Centenary College, 1-0 on Friday. Steinwand tallied five saves and entered the game 11th nationally with four shutouts at that time. He now holds a 3-0-2 record on the season with 450 minutes of shutout time.
