SAA Softball Report – March 11

Atlanta, Ga. – Two teams remain unbeaten in conference softball play after the first two weekends of March. Sixth-ranked Berry earned a series sweep over Sewanee to move to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in the league. Rhodes is also 3-0 in the conference while Birmingham-Southern is 2-1 and Centre 3-3.

Athlete of the Week:
PLAYER: Rylie Bentley | Centre | Senior | Henderson, Ky. – batted .900 in three games for the week, leading Centre to a series sweep of Hendrix. The senior totaled six runs and six RBI with two doubles and a homer against the Warriors. Bentley went 3-for-3 with two RBIs on two doubles in the opener. She then hit 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs with a double and homer, followed by a 3-for-3, two runs scored and a double performance in the series finale.
 
PITCHER: Andrea Searcy | Centre | Senior | Carrolton, Ky. – totaled five scoreless innings over two games with seven strikeouts and surrendering two hits. In the opener against Hendrix, she struck out one and threw a scoreless inning. The senior shined in the series finale, striking out six and scattering two hits over four innings to pick up the victory.  
 
Notable Performances:
  • Ava Fouts (Berry) – in two games, racked up nine strikeouts in nine innings of work, picking up victories in both games. She allowed six hits and three runs with 4 K’s against Saint Benedict to start the week. In conference play, Fouts threw four scoreless innings against Sewanee with five strikeouts and just one hit.
  • Mya Skinner (Millsaps) - posted two strong performances at Centenary over the weekend. The newcomer totaled 14.0 IP, while giving up three earned runs, six hits, two walks, while striking out seven batters. She was big in the 5-2 win with four strikeouts, no walks, two earned runs against while only allowing three hits in seven innings.
  • Anna Jackson (Berry) – hit .500 for the week, going 8-for-16 at the plate in five games. She had seven hits in the three-game series against Sewanee as the Vikings swept the Tigers. She scored two runs with 13 RBIs across the three games and a game high seven in game one. She also blasted two homeruns in the series.
  • Katie Norris (Millsaps) – batted 4-for-8 with an RBI and three runs scored. On Saturday in Game One of a doubleheader, Norris doubled and scored a run in a 5-2 win. In Game Two she posted a run, walked and tallied an RBI in an 8-4 win. Wrapping up the weekend on Sunday in a narrow 2-1 defeat in eight innings, Norris batted 2-for-2 with a run, walk and stolen base.
