SAA Softball Report – February 17, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – Berry and Sewanee lead the SAA standings into mid-February, both sitting gat 3-1 on the season. The 15th-ranked Vikings split a double header with future conference foe Maryville while the Tigers swept Wesleyan over the weekend. Millsaps is on a four-game winning streak with doubleheader wins over Covenant and the W.

Athlete:
Allana Vasquez | Millsaps | Sophomore | Udine, Italy  – was instrumental at the plate in helping the Majors to a perfect 4-0 weekend at The W Invitational over the weekend. She batted .700 (7-for-10), added seven RBIs, five doubles, two runs and walked twice in a pair of wins against both MUW and Covenant.
 
Pitcher:
Allana Vasquez | Millsaps | Sophomore | Udine, Italy  – pitched two stellar games, helping the Majors to a 4-0 weekend at The W Invitational over the weekend. She totaled 12.0 IP with three earned runs and nine strikeouts, while only allowing six hits and three earned runs in victories over MUW and Covenant.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Ava Fouts (Berry) - At the plate she was 3-7 against Maryville with one RBI while also pitching game two and clinching the win for the team with 4.0 IP and three strikeouts.
  • Morgan Tabor (Centre) - went a perfect 2-2 versus Huntingdon in the final game of a four-contest round robin tournament. She ended that event with a .333 batting average and notched one RBI across four starts.
  • Abbie Buckner (Sewanee) - batted .533 (8-for-15) over four games with three walks, six runs scored and nine stolen bases. She collected two hits with a run and one RBI in the opener at LaGrange and added a single in the second contest. Against Wesleyan she was 2-for-4 with three runs scored plus a walk in the first game and collected two hits, a walk and two more runs scored in the second outing. Buckner also picked up a win in the circle in the second game at Wesleyan with four innings of work.
  • Casey Holloway (Berry) - clinched the game two save against Maryville, throwing three innings with four strikeouts in the 3-1 win.
  • Layne Ogle (Centre) - pitched both games versus Greensboro over the weekend and put in six and two thirds innings of work in. The junior allowed just one earned run in the first bout between the teams. She finished the weekend with six strikeouts and walked none.
  • Reagan Huskey (Sewanee) - collected a 2-0 record with a save, helping the Tigers win 3-of-4 games to open the season. The righthander scattered 10 hits, giving up one run (in the seventh inning) in a complete-game, 4-1 victory at LaGrange. Huskey worked four innings in the first game at Wesleyan, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and tossed the final 2.2 scoreless innings in the finale at Wesleyan for a save. She posted a 1.48 ERA covering 13.2 innings in three outings.
