Atlanta, Ga. – Trinity won its 28
th-straight SAA game on Saturday, clinching at least a share of its third SAA football title in a row while also grabbing an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
The fifth-ranked Tigers downed Sewanee 44-6 on the road to improve to 7-0 in league play and 8-1 overall. They will host Hendrix in the final week of the season looking for a win to claim the title outright.
Berry continued to make its case for an at-large bid into the postseason, rolling past Birmingham-Southern 53-6 for a fifth-straight win. The 23
rd-ranked Vikings have only one loss on the season, a 46-37 setback to Trinity at the end of September. They will close the regular season hosting Rhodes on Saturday.
Centre improved to 5-2 in the league after a convincing 47-29 win over Hendrix and Southwestern snapped a four-game skid with a 42-13 victory at Millsaps.

Jaylen Spriggs | Southwestern | First Year | Fort Worth, Texas – accounted for five touchdowns and led the Pirates to a 42-13 win over Millsaps. The dual-threat QB ran for three touchdowns on six carries, totaling 27 yards on the ground. The was completed 12-of-20 through the air for 162 yards and another two touchdowns.
DEFENSIVE:
Jason Lund | Southwestern | Senior | Azle, Texas – had a career-high four sacks for 23 yards against Millsaps while also recording five tackles for loss for 43 yards. In addition, The senior forced two fumbles which the Pirates recovered, one being a sack-fumble. Lund was part of a defense that held Millsaps to just 13 points in the game on the way to a 42-13
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Eli Gehman | Trinity | Senior | Cedar Creek, Texas – booted five punts for 233 yards (46.6 yards/punt) during Trinity’s victory over Sewanee to help the Tigers clinch a share of the SAA Championship and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs. Gehman had two punts of 50+ yards, including a 53-yarder on his first attempt, and a season-long 64-yarder later in the game.
Notable Performances:
- Ryan Merrifield (Trinity) – Racked up 82 yards receiving and two touchdowns on six receptions, leading Trinity to a SAA clinching win over Sewanee.
- Blake Busson (Centre) –caught six passes for a career high 147 yards and two touchdowns. Busson caught a jump ball on the final play of the first half and withstood a midair collision for his first score, and then hauled in a deep ball in the third quarter and carried three tacklers into the end zone for his second touchdown.
- Joshua Richardson (Millsaps) – garnered 115 all-purpose yards against Southwestern. He rushed 12 times for 69 yards (5.8 yard-average) and hauled in three catches for 46 yards.
- Brandon Cade (Berry) – became the nation’s leading rusher with 121 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries against Birmingham-Southern.
- Ryan Arnold (Trinity) – recorded six tackles and a sack, as the Tigers held Sewanee to just 238 total yards that included 71 yards rushing. Arnold and his Trinity teammates also forced two turnovers and had five sacks, allowing just two field goals of 40+ yards on the scoreboard.
- James Jones (Millsaps) – totaled four tackles (three solo), 0.5 TFLs, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. He also secured a pass breakup and a 35-yard interception return.
- Brock Skinner (Berry) - followed his two interception performance last week with another two interceptions against BSC. He also had 3 tackles and 1 TFL in the victory.
- Jack Satterfield (Sewanee) – punted for an average 44.4 and made a 43 yd and 46yd field goals to put the Tigers on the board.
- Ethan Klapatch (Millsaps) – punted the ball four times for 183 yards (45.8-yard average), with a long of 53 yards and one touchback. Additionally, Klapatch added three kickoffs for 190 yards (63.3-yard average).
- Charlie Fournier (Southwestern) – had six punts for 224 yards against Millsaps, pinning them inside the 20 one time while also having a long punt of 50 yards. He also averaged 37 yards on punts and went six-for-six on extra points.
- Cade Petty (Berry) - scooped up a blocked punt and ran 37 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter to put Berry up 29-0. The play marked his third touchdown of the season on special teams he's accounted for including a blocked punt against Southwestern and a kickoff return against Sewanee.
