Athletes of the Week:
Offense:
Samuel Theiss | Trinity | JR | Boerne, TX – Theiss led the sixth-ranked Trinity University men's soccer team to SAA road wins over both Oglethorpe University (GA) and Berry College (GA) over the weekend. He tallied three total goals over the two games, scoring the first goal in each contest to put the Tigers on top 1-0 each time. After a scoreless first half against Oglethorpe on Friday, Theiss put in a penalty kick rebound for a goal in the 49th minute to give Trinity a much-needed boost. Sunday afternoon against Berry, he scored the first goal of the game just past the 16-minute mark, then added his second in the 60th minute on a PK redemption to give Trinity a comfortable 3-0 cushion with just 30 minutes left.

Defense:
Cooper Pero | Southwestern | JR | Tulsa, OK – Pero got it done both defensively and offensively for the Pirates in the squad's 1-0 victory over Berry College and Oglethorpe University. Pero dominated with his back line on Friday with another shutout. The junior also scored the game winning goal to clinch the victory over Berry on a header for his third goal of the season. On Sunday, Pero helped the Pirates secure their second win of the weekend with another shutout. The Pirates have eight shutouts on the season, heavily thanks to the center back.

Notable Performances:

Offense
  • Ellis Dykes | Millsaps | SO | Tuscaloosa, AL – Millsaps men's soccer sophomore forward Ellis Dykes scored twice to help the Majors earn a split to open conference play at Harper Davis Field in Jackson, Miss. Dykes scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Centre on Friday before scoring in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Sewanee on Sunday. He totaled four shots with three on frame.
  • Stokes McConnell | Sewanee | JR | Sullivan's Island, SC – McConnell scored twice in the second half of Sunday's come-from-behind, 2-1 victory at Millsaps for the Tigers. The junior converted a penalty kick six minutes into the second period after Isaac Rasheed was fouled in the box. Then in the 80th minute he took a pass from Alpha Bah and buried the game-winner, his sixth goal of the season, all in the last eight matches
  • Greyson Pinto | Southwestern | SR | Plano, TX – Pinto had a career moment on Sunday, scoring a rocket in the box to secure the victory over Oglethorpe University. Pinto was the hero in the 81st minute on Sunday helping the Pirates start SAA play 2-0. The senior converted his third goal of the season. Pinto also played 64 crucial minutes on Friday helping the squad beat Berry College 1-0.

Defense
  • Michael Hamauei | Millsaps | SR | Shreveport, LA – Millsaps men's soccer senior goalkeeper Michael Hamauei was terrific in helping the Majors split two matches to begin conference action over the weekend in Jackson, Miss. Hamauei pitched a 10-save shutout in a 1-0 triumph over Centre on Friday before stopping four shots in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Sewanee on Sunday. The 10-save performance was the most by Hamauei in his collegiate career in a shutout, and sixth career clean sheet.
  • Sebastian Lewis | Oglethorpe | FR | Roswell, GA – Oglethorpe's Sebastian Lewis faced two national top-15 teams this weekend and put up a pair of career best efforts. Friday against No. 6 Trinity, he posted his career high of nine saves, including one on a PK that kept the game scoreless in the second half. Trinity would take advantage of set plays for both goals of the night. Lewis followed that effort up with another nine saves against No. 14 Southwestern on Sunday, conceding only one goal on a broken play in the 82nd minute.
  • Luke Chandler | Trinity | SR | Glasgow, Scotland – Chandler led the sixth-ranked Trinity men's soccer team to a pair of road wins to open SAA play this weekend, defeating Oglethorpe University (GA) 2-1 and Berry College (GA) 4-1. Chandler and the Tiger defense held each team to just seven total shots, allowing one goal in each - with Berry's goal coming on a penalty kick.
