Atlanta, Ga. – Heading into the home stretch of the 2024 regular season, the quest for the SAA softball crown has turned into a two-team race with Berry and Birmingham-Southern leading the pack. The sixth-ranked Vikings are on top at 12-0 in the conference while BSC is 8-1 in league play. The rivals are set to meet in Birmingham this weekend with the series winner taking the inside track on the conference title. A Berry sweep would clinch third-straight and ninth total SAA championship. Rhodes is third in the conference standings at 7-5 while Centre is fourth (4-8).

Athlete of the Week:
PLAYER: Morgan Frye | Berry | Senior | Suwanee, Ga. – went 5-for-8 ( .625 BA) at the plate scoring five runs with three RBIs. The first baseman also accumulated three stolen bases in the wins, and defensively had eight putouts with one assist The senior highlighted her week with a 2-for-2, two RBI day in the series finale.
PITCHER: Alana Vasquez | Millsaps | First Year | Udine, Italy – was excellent in two appearances over the weekend as the Majors earned a pair of wins hosting Centre. Vasquez combined for 12 innings pitched, zero earned runs, six strikeouts, while holding the Colonels to three walks and nine hits. She pitched a complete seven innings in a 5-1, Game One win on Friday, allowing three walks and five hits, while striking out four batters with no earned runs. The freshman kept the Majors alive in a 4-3 defeat in Game Three on Sunday, throwing five scoreless innings in relief. She allowed four hits but held the Colonels to no walks and struck out two batters.
Notable Performances:
- Gina Dudley (Rhodes) - had yet another phenomenal weekend, pitching a complete extra innings game, giving up no earned runs. She threw another two innings, giving up no runs at all putting her at a 0.00 ERA for the weekend, helping the Lynx secure a series against Sewanee. She gave up only seven hits in all 10 innings with zero walks and struck out three.
- Lucy Baseheart (Centre) - had a season-high eight strikeouts in the first game of the Millsaps series. The senior allowed no runs in the final game of the contest, where she pitched 2.3 innings, which was her sixth game of the year where she didn’t walk a single batter.
- Ava Fouts (Berry) - showed up in five innings against the Hendrix in game one for the weekend series. She allowed four hits with no runs in the win and had 5 strikeouts.
- Kaylee Gregory (Centre) – Hit above .300 in both games in the Millsaps series she batted in. The senior tallied a hit in each game, both were doubles, and scored a run in the Saturday win. For the weekend, Gregory went 2-for-6 with a run scored and a pair of doubles.
- Katie Norris (Millsaps) – enjoyed a terrific weekend in powering the Majors to two-out-of-three wins over Centre. Norris batted 64 percent (7-of-11) with three RBIs, one run scored, a double and a walk. In a 5-1 Game One win, she went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double, while she batted 2-for-3 with a run and walk in a 4-3 win in nine innings on Friday. In a narrow 4-3 defeat on Saturday, she closed the series 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Hannah Wilson (Sewanee) – hit .471 (8-of-17) at the plate with four RBIs, blasting a pair of home runs on the weekend.
