SAA Softball Report – April 8

Atlanta, Ga. – Winners of 12-straight and coming off a sweep of Birmingham-Southern, Berry has clinched the outright 2024 SAA regular season championship. The Vikings (30-3) moved to 15-0 in league play to claim their third-straight conference crown and the top-seed in the upcoming SAA Tournament. BSC is second in the conference at 8-4 while Rhodes is third (9-6). Centre, Millsaps, and Sewanee are each 4-8 in a tie for fourth as teams continue vying for seeding the last two weeks of the season.

Athlete of the Week:
PLAYER: Morgan Frye | Berry | Senior | Suwanee, Ga. – hit 5-for-8 (.625) with a 1.500 slugging percentage on a double and two homers, while knocking in four in the Viking sweep of Birmingham-Southern. The senior was issued four intentional walks and scored six runs over the weekend, also grabbing a stolen base.
 
PITCHER: Abigail Smith | Millsaps | Senior | Florence, Miss. – was in the circle for eight innings against Sewanee, scattering eight hits and surrendering two unearned runs with three strike outs, lifting the Majors to a 3-2 win over the Tigers.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Morgan Tabor (Centre) – hit .455 with two RBIs on three doubles in games against Transylvania and Asbury.
  • Allana Vasquez (Millsaps) - batted 5-for-13 with eight RBIs, two home runs, three doubles, three runs scored and two walks. In Game Two on Saturday, Vasquez finished 3-for-6 with seven RBIs, a homer, two doubles and two runs. She helped the Majors earn a 3-2 win on Sunday with a 2-for-4 outing, doubled and hit a crucial go-ahead home run in the eighth inning.
  • Jasmyn Stanely (Rhodes) – was huge for the Lynx in their series against Hendrix. She had 10 at bats, six hits, four runs, three RBI’s and a walk to help us win the series against Hendrix. She also committed no errors in the field and played every inning of all three games. 
  • Casey Holloway (Berry) – threw six innings against Birmingham-Southern, earning a win and a save. The sophomore allowed just four hits and one run while racking up 12 strike outs and no walks.
  • Lucy Baseheart (Centre) – threw 11 innings against Transylvania and Ashbury, rolling up 16 strikeouts, allowing two runs on six hits.
  • Emily Pertuit (Rhodes) - had a dominating performance against Hendrix this weekend, throwing a complete game - giving up only one run, scattering just five hits and walked none. 
  • Raegen Huskey (Sewanee) - won the first game of the weekend and then lost in eight innings in the third, she pitched both full games. In the second game, she allowed only one earned run. She had 15 strikeouts this weekend with six in the first game and nine in the second. She allowed only six walks in 15 innings.
