SAA Baseball Report – March 31, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – As the calendar flips to the final month of the season, Hendrix and Millsaps lead a very tight SAA baseball standings from top to bottom. The Warriors are 4-2 in the league and 11-14 overall while Millsaps sits at 6-3 (19-7 overall) after taking a series from Sewanee last weekend. Centre and Rhodes are both 5-4. The Colonels are riding a five game winning streak, and the Lynx are coming off a sweep of Berry in conference play.

Athlete:
Ben Prather | Centre | Junior | Lexington, Ky. - had an amazing week of filling box scores as Centre won all four of its games against Transylvania and LaGrange this week. Moving in the batting order from second to leadoff, the junior All-American went 8-13 at the plate with one double and one homer, slugging .923 for the week. In addition, he walked seven times to give him an on-base percentage of .762. Prather scored six runs and stole four bases to help Centre pull off the unblemished week.
 
Pitcher:
Matt Munn | Sewanee | Senior | Houston, Texas - pitched 7.1 innings against Millsaps on Saturday, picking up the win for the Tigers with 12 strikeouts. Munn scattered eight hits and did not walk a batter, giving up one run while in the contest. He exited the game with two runners on base and one out in the eighth, his longest career outing. He was charged with three runs, two earned. 
 
Notable Performances:
  • Zac Sohosky (Rhodes) – facing one of the nation’s top offenses, Sohosky tossed 7.1 innings without allowing a run, scattering six hits with five strikeouts and a walk in a win over Berry.
  • Nick Tarantino (Millsaps) - pitched all seven innings and helped keep Sewanee in check in Tennessee on Friday. He struck out seven batters, while allowing just one walk and two runs against seven hits. The Majors triumphed 14-2 with the run rule in the series opener.
  • TJ Shiara (Centre) - had a strong week of relief pitching as he threw 7.2 innings in two appearances and struck out nine batters while allowing just two runs. He had the finest outing of his career on Tuesday against Transylvania, putting in 4.2 scoreless innings with a career high seven strikeouts to get his first win of the season.
  • Gray Berry (Millsaps) - helped the Majors to a 3-1 week with a win over Belhaven and series win at Sewanee. He batted 9-for-18 with two home runs, seven RBIs, scored nine runs, tallied two doubles, stole a base and was hit by two pitches.
  • Cooper Kuriger (Rhodes) - went 4 for 8 (.500 Batting average) with two runs scored, five RBI, three walks, a home run and a pair of doubles.  
  • Zach Fortman (Sewanee) - was 7-of-12 this week with four runs, three RBIs, and two doubles. Fortman added three walks and three stolen bases to his weekend. Fortman was also a factor in two double plays this weekend, as the Tigers led the country in double plays.
